What We Are Learning

On this page you will find information about our Opal class curriculum - updated throughout the year.

Please take a look at our overarching curriculum leaflet before exploring the links below to each of our foundation curriculum digital floor books. 

These floor books showcase our class learning and are updated regularly to give a detailed oversight into what is happening day-to-day in class. You can also find information about our daily reading lessons along with our termly spellings.

Reading

Each day, every child in Opal class will take part in a 45 minute reading lesson at the beginning of the day.

These will take the form of a Read Write Inc. session.

In Read Write Inc. they will be grouped according to the latest assessments and will embed previous learning, learn new sounds and read weekly books alongside sentence writing and handwriting challenges. They will also be given a Read Write Inc. book to come home and be read each day.

When we read together we will ask questions using VIPERS (Vocabulary, Infer, Predict, Explain, Summarise) to deepen our understanding of texts. This is in line with what children will meet during reading lessons as they move off of Read Write inc.
