Miss Viv Horne
Reception (EYFS) Teacher
My whole life has been dedicated to teaching children in the Early Years. I am Australian born, which is where my passion for teaching began. In Australia, my experiences served me well working in a variety of Nursery settings and private Nanny Positions, in Melbourne Australia and later in the UK. During this time, I received my Nursery Nurse qualification, working in a variety of environments, including hospitals and Early Year’s settings. I have worked with new born babies to children 6 years of age. My life in the UK has allowed me to indulge my love of travel and during my time here, I received my Early Years HND, BA in EY studies and post graduate certificate in Special Educational Needs. I have continued to work in a variety of roles within the Early Years profession including managing Early Years settings, to Children Centre Teacher posts (whilst teaching at St Day School) and teaching YR, 1 and 2 children in St Day and Carharrack School. Needless to say, I love teaching – especially at St Day and Carharrack School!
When not in school I live with my very OLD adorable rescue cat, Smokey. I absolutely love to open water swim with my friends every Sunday morning, the whole year through. We love to take on swimming challenges and have swum around St Michel’s Mount, Looe Island and the Castle to Castle swim from Falmouth to St Mawes to name a few. My other hobbies include, body boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, cycling and walking. I sing in a local Choir and have taken part in the Falmouth Sea Shanty Festival twice!
I consider it a great privilege to be a part of so many children’s lives. To excite, motivate, explore, finding the awe and wonder in life with young minds is the type of learning journey I aim to accomplish with every new cohort, each year. Step into my classroom and I promise you, you will be excited, motivated and engaged in learning, ready to be the best CHANGEMAKER you can be for your future life!
Mrs Gemma Richards
Learning Support Assistant
Welcome Mrs Richards to Opal Class!
I am delighted to join the team at St Day and Carharrack School.
For over fifteen years I have supported individuals living with autism to live fulfilled and person-centered lives, putting into practice the 'Company's Mission Statement' to 'Empower people to lead a lifestyle they're proud of'.
More recently, I started working in Early Years. Last year I gained my level 3 in Early Years Study. I find it such a privilege to be a part of a child's learning journey.
Outside of school I love to spend time with my family enjoying the amazing Cornish beaches. I am a member of the Carharrack Community Choir and Carharrack Players. I love nothing better than getting stuck into a new book!
