Rights Respecting Schools (RRS)

The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award supports schools across the UK to embed children’s human rights in their ethos and culture.

The Award recognises achievement in putting the UN Convention on the Right of the Child (CRC) at the heart of a school’s practice to improve wellbeing and help all children and young people realise their potential.

The Award is based on principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation - everything we believe in.

The initiative started in 2006 and schools involved in the Award have reported a positive impact on relationships and wellbeing, leading to better learning and behavior, improved academic standards and less bullying.

This supports our School in living our own Vision and Values of Enjoying, Engaging and Excelling.

The ABCDE of Children's Rights

Rights are for All children. They are universal.

Rights are there at Birth.  They are inherent.

Rights Cannot be taken away.  They are inalienable.

Rights Do Not have to be earnt.  They are unconditional.

All rights are Equally important.  They are indivisible.

Our Rights Respecting Change-Makers

We have an elected group of proud Rights Respecting Change-makers informing and facilitating the rights of the children in school and beyond.

Our team of Rights Respecters for this year, 2024-2025, are keen to challenge global injustice as well as defend and protect children’s rights within the local environment and in school.

A Whole School Approach

We are proud to announce we are now a SILVER Accredited Rights Respecting School!

Creating a safe, inspiring place to learn, children lead events championing their passions and concerns for children all over the world.

Living our vision and values in school to enjoy, engage and excel encompasses all Children’s Rights and places them at the heart of a high quality curriculum.

Both adults and children in school understand and live this ethos together in a shared understanding of “I have rights, you have rights”.  Our children understand that with rights come responsibilities. The positive impact that this creates places kindness at the heart of everything we do.

Building a framework around the rights and threading them through the heart of school environment, children have collectively challenged viewpoints and created change by participating in events they feel passionate about.

This year we are taking part in the Outright Campaign against Climate Change.  The children have written to the Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero sharing information about the UNICEF campaign and requesting that the Minister take their passionate views forward to COP28.

We continue on our Outright campaign and look forward to holding an Environment Day this year.  Further events have included running a mini marathon for Children In Need and collection food for those who need it at Christmas time.

Up and coming events include, Safer Internet Day, Number Day (raising money for the NSPCC), and Children's Mental Health Week.  We also look forward to World Book Day and Science Day!
