Physical Education Curriculum Intent Statement
At St Day and Carharrack Community School every class from EYFS to year 6 will engage in two Physical Education sessions a week.
These sessions will be delivered by either a member of staff or an external sports coach.
We follow the GET SET 4 PE scheme which promotes development of social, personal, fitness & health, cognitive, creative and physical skills. We aim to develop children’s overall health and fitness, while supporting their well-being and confidence.
We provide opportunities to build on competence and control through after-school clubs, competitive games and sports events.
Our local area offers a range of opportunities allowing children to Enjoy, Engage and Excel in sports such as rugby, football and water-sports which we strive to incorporate into our learning alongside the curriculum content.
As a result of our coastal links, water safety and awareness is invaluable. We therefore provide opportunities to build on these skills in Year 2 through beach trips and educational visitors, alongside swimming lessons for one term in year 4.
The goal by the end of year six is to be able to swim 25m unaided and be secure in their understanding of water safety both poolside and at the beach.
Children will leave with an informed understanding of the importance of physical education contributing to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
