Science Curriculum Intent Statement
At St Day and Carharrack, children enjoy asking scientific questions and using their curiosity to begin understanding and appreciating the way in which science affects their lives and the universe in which they live.
They will also start to recognise how science influences the environment and society, leaving everlasting and sometimes irreversible effects.
By working scientifically children will consider hypotheses and investigate them, recording results and present them in a variety of ways accurately. Children can then evaluate and draw conclusions from their findings, exploring how to take their enquiry further.
We strive to support all children to excel as scientific thinkers and contribute as the change makers of our world. Science teaches an understanding of natural phenomena. It aims to stimulate curiosity in finding out why things happen in the way that they do.
Children will engage in methods of enquiry and investigation to stimulate creative thought.

Children with SEND and Science
At St Day and Carharrack, we believe all children are scientists and use a 'keep up, not catch up’ inclusive approach for all and in particular our children with SEND.
We will offer additional help to our children with SEND which will include adapted lessons and scaffolding, pre-teaching, same-day interventions and methods of recording. This support will give, vital additional opportunities to review and practise core knowledge for pupils who are working well below age-related expectations and or present with a specific learning difference around science.
