Mr Ashley Hughes
Year 4/5 Teacher
I moved to Cornwall to give my family the opportunity to live in one of the most beautiful counties in the United Kingdom. My family love the outdoors and we spend most weekends exploring beaches, coastal paths and idyllic coves. We have never looked back since we arrived!
I have worked with the wonderful children and fantastic staff of St Day and Carharrack Primary School for a number of years. There is a wonderful energy around the building and every day offers new experiences, surprises and challenges. I absolutely love it.
My classroom is my sanctuary. I offer a calm space where children feel safe and can truly be themselves. I believe in listening to every voice and allowing the children to explore their thoughts and feelings. Being open and honest is an important part of my class ethos. I can unwittingly spend most of the day talking to the children sharing stories and experiences. The children love it and so do I.
In my spare time I enjoy my garden. I love to grow fruit and vegetables or simply sit and appreciate the environment around me. I also enjoy DIY and home improvement projects. During the summer holidays, you'll generally find me covered in paint as I take on my next project. My go to place for relaxation is music. I'll happily plug in my headphones and spend an evening exploring old and new songs.
