On the 26th and 27th November, Sapphire Class enjoyed a trip to the Minnack Theatre. They had an exciting opportunity to perform on the main stage, explore backstage and we even managed to squeeze in a picnic on the beach before heading home.

This half term Sapphire Class have been doing some super science and solving crime at the same time! We have been exploring materials and their properties through lots of messy and exciting experiments. Our knowledge on the subject came in handy last week when we discovered a crime had been committed on school grounds, the key stage 2 teachers being the main suspects. But don’t worry! Sapphire think they have found the culprit and we are looking forward to testing our results further to build a concrete case of evidence against them!

Happy Holi!
Today year 5 celebrated the Hindu festival of colours, Holi. We learned about Hindu traditions, celebrations and the story of Prahlad and Holika. Sapphire class then braved the elements for our own celebration. We loved getting messy and targeting poor Miss Clark. Although the colours didn't have the rainbow staining power we had hoped for, we had a lot of fun. Perhaps we can have a round two in the summer!
To inspire our writing Sapphire class have been making freeze frames, representing character's thoughts and emotions through poses and expression. These freeze frames were inspired by our happy places. Can you guess where we are pretending to be and what we are doing just from these images?
Sapphire Class have been working very hard on our RLG dance performance. In just 2 days we will be dancing our hearts out on stage at the Regal Theatre for two nights running. We hope to see you there supporting us. Our dance is inspired by our learning about the ancient Maya, complete with warriors in battle, a King's coronation, a game of Pok-a-Pok and a back flip got good measure!

In the event of school closure, you can find a number of work sheets and resources to use at home here on our class page. All the work that is posted is based on learning the children have already covered, and is intended to consolidate this learning and revise topics. It is essential that the children keep their learning fresh in their minds over the coming weeks.
Please ensure that your child is completing a range of work that covers a variety of subjects. Refer to our class timetable to see how often we usually teach each subject.
As always, we expect the children to read daily and complete their reading record, children should continue to practice their spellings and practice their time tables. 99 Club worksheets can be found on the Pupil page of the website and Time Table Rockstars is a fantastic resource! Please check back to this page regularly as I will continue to update with further resources.
I hope to make the learning as accessible as possible over a trying time.
All the best with your home learning,
Miss Clark

Maths resources
Below are assertive mentoring maths tests. These tests touch on everything we learn throughout year 5. There may be some questions your child is unsure of as we have not yet covered all units for example angles, percentages etc. They are still a valuable resource and your children have learned the majority of what is covered in the test. Some of these tests were including in the packs that were sent home from school, there are 15 in total, please check which ones your child has completed to avoid repetition. This information can be found in the top right hand corner of the test.
