Reporting to Parents and Carers
Pupil Premium is funding provided to schools which is additional to main school funding. It is allocated according to the number of pupils on-roll who have ever been eligible for free school meals (FSM), or who has been ‘Looked After’ (in care) for 6 months or more. A smaller amount is allocated according to the number of children of service families.
It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
At St Day & Carharrack our principles for deciding how to allocate this funding are:
· Teaching & learning opportunities must meet the needs of all our pupils
· To assess all children and ensure appropriate provision is in place
· We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has identified as being socially disadvantaged.
· In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that receiving free school meals does not always mean a pupil is socially disadvantaged
· Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time.
· All work is aimed at accelerating progress of socially disadvantaged pupils across the curriculum by removing their barriers to learning.
The range of provision the Governors have considered include:
v Funding small group phonics teaching through Read Write Inc
v 1:1 support
v Additional small group learning opportunities
v Subsidised school trips and residential experiences
v Provision of a Learning Mentor to provide pastoral support
Provision of an Equality and Diversity Teaching Assistant
The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) Allocation for 2016/17 is : £40,500
Governors have targeted the PPG to:
a) Small group literacy teaching to raise standards in reading and writing by partially funding:
- Read Write Inc throughout Early Years and KS1 targeted at accelerated reading
- Small group writing intervention for pupils in KS2
- Small group maths intervention
b) Learning Mentor delivering targeted 1:1 and group support
c) Cultural Diversity Support Worker
d) Provision of 1:1 and small group intervention in numeracy and literacy
g) Subsidised educational visits and residential visits
h) Subsidised breakfast club
I) Subsidised after school provision
k) Speech and Language interventions.
l) Enrichment opportunities i.e. cooking, surfing, outdoor education,
m) Promoting good health
n) Promoting good mental health i.e. access to yoga and mindfulness
o) Securing good attendance i.e. attendance at additional morning clubs
